Surrey Diagnostics specialises in conducting rapid and sensitive microbial detection using Real-time PCR on exhaust air dust filters and Sentinel-free filters. This service offers valuable insights into the overall health of your animal rack. For the most comprehensive assessment of your animal's health, we recommend using this running complementary with our other services. Sampling can be done via swabbing the exhaust dust that collects on the filter of the AHU. For the Sentinel-free diagnostics, a regular sentinel cage is kept as normal but without the need for sentinels! A filter is placed in the cage in question and shaken when new soiled bedding is added. This filter can then be sent for testing. Please contact us for an in-depth consultation.
Regular screening plays a crucial role in preventing and containing the spread of pathogens. Since these methods are non-invasive, it aligns with the principles of the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine). We highly recommend against pooling samples together as this will lead to diluting of the pathogens and may produce unreliable results. To ensure the ongoing accuracy of our results, we routinely conduct validation checks through an external laboratory.
